GAMS
GAMS fights for the abolition of female genital mutilation in Belgium and around the world.
Support GAMS
According to the most recent research (UNICEF 2016), about 200 million girls and women around the world have been victims of some form of genital mutilation. Alarmingly, each year, 3 million girls are at risk of being subjected to this practice.
Founded in 1996 by Khadidiatou Diallo, GAMS (Group for the Abolition of Female Sexual Mutilation) works to eliminate female genital mutilations. The main goal is to train professionals to support the affected women, raise awareness in communities, and ensure the protection of young girls at risk of this threat, both in Belgium and abroad.
Key figures
Thanks to the advocacy of GAMS, the Belgian law on the prevention of female genital mutilation has been amended. Belgium is now the only country in the world with a specific article in its penal code, allowing the prosecution of anyone involved in a mutilation, whether in Belgium or abroad, on a Belgian minor.
Where your money goes
Thanks to your donations, GAMS can intensify its awareness-raising actions among communities at risk, thereby contributing to the eradication of female genital mutilation. (as an example)
